Can I use personal hotspot with my eSIM?
Yes, you can use your personal hotspot with your eSIM, provided your device and mobile network support it. Follow the steps below to see how:
For iOS:
- Open your phones settings.
- Tap ‘Personal Hotspot’.
- Toggle on ‘Allow Others to Join’.
Next, check your eSIM installation page to see if an Access Point Name (APN) needs to be set manually. If it does, you'll also need to configure the APN for the hotspot by following these steps:
-
Go to your phones’ settings.
-
Tap ‘Cellular or Mobile Data’
-
Select your eSIM under ‘Cellular/Mobile Data Plans’
-
Tap ‘Cellular/Mobile Data Network’
-
In the Personal Hotspot APN field, enter the APN exactly as shown in your eSIM installation details (use all lowercase, no spaces).
-
Leave the ‘Username’ and ‘Password’ fields blank.
For Android:
- Set the Access Point Name (APN) before turning on Hotspot & Tethering. (See also ‘How do I configure my APN settings?’)
- From your Home screen, open phones’ settings (you can also pull down the notification bar and tap the gear icon).
- Go to ‘Network & Internet’.
- Tap ‘Hotspot & Tethering’.
- Select ‘Wi-Fi Hotspot’ and toggle it on.
Make sure the correct APN is configured before enabling the hotspot, especially if your eSIM requires a manual APN set up.
