Community Fibre’s installation process

You can find a general overview of the installation process in our FAQs section, explore our installation process. You can also take a look at our handy step-by-step guide on the installation process here.

Or read on for the installation process in a little more detail.

Underground connections:

For properties served from our underground network: We need to run a fibre cable from our connection in the street to your property. We have permission to utilise existing Openreach cable ducts. In most cases, this will allow us to run our fibre optic cables directly to your property.

Our engineers may run this cable before your installation date but don't worry. You won't have to be at home for us to complete this part of the work.

The engineers will fit a small external box to your property. Please keep in mind that the location of the external box will be determined by the exit point of the Openreach duct on your property and cannot be changed. If you have any concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to let us know.

Once this work is complete, our Installation Engineers will attend on your chosen day and time to complete the internal part of the installation.

Overhead connections:

Properties on our overhead network require a different type of installation, usually serviced from an Openreach or Community Fibre-owned telegraph pole. Our installation engineers will connect a fibre cable to our equipment at the top of the pole and then run that cable to your property; once there, they will attach the cable to the soffit or wall using a metal fixing and run it to the agreed cable entry point.

Our engineers will always discuss the best possible cable route and location for our equipment on the day.

Please note that our installations require us to drill a small hole through an external wall to get our cable indoors. Our engineers will discuss the best way to get the cable in with minimal disruption. Any holes we have to drill will be filled with weatherproof sealant and made neat.

Do you share infrastructure with Openreach?

No, we do not. Please be aware that in both installation methods mentioned above, we utilise Openreach's existing ducts and telegraph poles purely to limit disruption to the street during installation.

We do, however, build, own, operate and maintain all aspects of our 100% full fibre network, which means that we do not share a network with other Internet Service Providers (ISPs) such as Sky, BT, TalkTalk and more. It also means that we can deliver the same incredible upload and download speeds advertised with your package from the data centre directly into your home.
